Hello! I’m Matt - a Deaf ASL Teacher.

I started teaching ASL in January 2010 at Deaf Communication by Innovation in Chicago, where I spent about 10 wonderful years. I really enjoyed teaching and meeting so many different students over the years. Since 2020, I’ve been teaching ASL online through Zoom, which has allowed me to share my love of ASL and Deaf culture with students from all over, and I now have over 16 years of teaching experience.

 

This is a simple one page website focused on one thing: ASL. I’m a teacher first, not a website designer! My goal is to keep things simple and make it easy for you to learn about my classes and get started.

 

I recommend that all students begin with Level 1, whether you are a complete beginner or already have some experience. Level 1 builds a strong foundation in ASL vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills, helping you move confidently into higher levels.

 

In my classes, we learn more than just signs. We learn ASL, Deaf culture, communication, and how ASL is naturally used. I also share stories and experiences from my life as a Deaf person and teacher.

 

Because I have a background in theatre, I put a strong emphasis on facial expressions, body language, and natural signing. These are important parts of ASL and can make a big difference in how clearly and naturally you communicate.

 

My goal is to help you learn ASL, understand Deaf culture, and feel more comfortable communicating in ASL.
